Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Trieste from 25 to 27 June – Press information

The G8 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will be held in Trieste on Thursday 25, Friday 26 and Saturday 27 June 2009 under the aegis of the Italian G8 Presidency.

Friday 26 June

• 8.30 am: Family photo in G8, EU Presidency, EU Commission, High EU Representative format (Palazzo della Regione [Regional Government Headquarters])
• 8.35 am: Video opportunity covering the start of the G8 Proceedings (Palazzo della Regione)
• 11.30 am: Press conference in G8, EU Presidency, EU Commission, High EU Representative format (Palazzo della Regione)
• 2.30 pm: Inaugural Session of the International Conference on “Afghanistan, Pakistan and Their Geographical Context” (Palazzo della Borsa Vecchia [Old Stock Exchange])
• 3.45 pm: Video opportunity covering the start of the proceedings of the Informal G8 Meeting on Afghanistan and the Regional Dimension with the Neighbouring Countries, Regional Players and International Organisations  (Palazzo della Regione).

NB. The Middle East Quartet press conference will also be held at the Palazzo della Regione on the afternoon of Friday 26 June.

Saturday 27 June

• 9.00 am: Video opportunity covering the start  of the proceedings of the Plenary Session on “Afghanistan and the Regional Dimension” (Palazzo della Regione)
• 11.45 am: Family photo of the Plenary Session delegates (Palazzo della Regione)

Accreditation

The journalists, photographers and cameramen accreditated to cover the event may collect accreditation cards in person upon presentation of an ID document from the Press Accreditation Office at Trieste’s Stazione Marittima (former Ocean Terminal) at the following times:

- Wednesday 24 June from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm
- Thursday 25 June from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm
- Friday 26 June fro, 7.00 am to 8.00 pm
- Saturday 27 June from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm.

The Farnesina (Italian Foreign Ministry) has an on-line accreditation system in operation that entails filling out an interactive form, to be found on the www.esteri.it site in the “Journalists’ Area” section, and attaching to it the requisite supporting documents in digital form. It is to be noted that, in addition to the supporting documents required, a passport-size digital photo must also be attached.
Personnel from foreign media without permanent Foreign Ministry accreditation are asked to get the Rome embassy of their publication’s home country to insert a specific verbal note requesting accreditation on line.

News media personnel requiring an entry visa for Italy are asked to submit their applications well in advance to the Italian embassy or consulate covering the country concerned, attaching both the requisite supporting documents and the printed receipt for their on-line application for accreditation.

Accreditation cards may be collected in person upon presentation of an ID document from the Press Accreditation Office at Trieste’s Stazione Marittima [former Ocean Terminal]. The desk’s opening hours are as follows:

- Wednesday 24 June from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm
- Thursday 25 June from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm
- Friday 26 June fro, 7.00 am to 8.00 pm
- Saturday 27 June from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm.

Press Hall

The International Media Centre at Trieste’s Stazione Marittima, which will comprise both the Press Workstations Room and the rooms for the national press conferences, will be in round-the-clock operation from 3.00 pm on Wednesday 24 June to 8.00 pm on Saturday 27 June.

Hotel Bookings - Transport

News media personnel wishing to cover the event may book hotel accommodation through the Triumph agency by logging on to the following website: (www.theoffice.it/G8theofficetriumph).

A shuttle service will be operational from the Airport to the Stazione Marittima from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 June.

Pool

For reasons of space, pools will be formed for television and photo coverage of the main events. The size of the crew for any given pool will be laid down by the Foreign Ministry Press Office. The list of the events for which it will be necessary to form a pool will be published at the very earliest on the www.esteri.it website in the section devoted to the G8 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The list will also be available for consultation at the Accreditation Desk at the International Media Centre at the Stazione Marittima. A special badge will be issued for each event.
