Road accessibility and traffic during the G8 Summit

28/06/2009

The G8 Summit, which is to be held in L'Aquila from 8 to 10 July, is drawing near, bringing, among other things, a number of changes to the usual traffic routes.

The L’Aquila Prefecture has announced that some roads will be closed to routine traffic and access to others limited from 0700 hours on 5 July to 1200 hours on 11 July. The practicalities and details will be set out in an order issued by the Prefect of L’Aquila.

Alternative routes have been mapped out in the areas adjacent to the Coppito Finance Police College, where the summit is to be held, to assist the townspeople.

The A.M.A. (Azienda Mobilità Aquilana) will be laying on a shuttle service to provide public transport in the areas closed to traffic..
Some roads will be closed to vehicles only, whereas others will be closed to pedestrians as well.

Residents, shopkeepers and everyone who provides essential services and utilities will be able to access the roads covered by the order with an identity card or pass.

Identity passes will be issued by the Sassa Carabinieri Station in Viale Duca degli Abruzzi, 98 from 8 am to 8 pm daily until 4 July and round the clock from 5 to 11 July.  The G8 Interforce Operations Group is at work at the station.
